Join ArtSplash tutors, Francine Lawrence and Susi Hoyle, for a fabulous week of drawing and painting at beautiful Finca Buenvino from Sunday 10th September to Saturday 16th September 2023.

If you think you can’t draw but have always wanted to, then spend a week learning with Francine and Susi who have successfully taught over 1000 people to draw. If you have done a little drawing and painting but would like to develop your skills, then this is a great opportunity to improve and learn new techniques in a creative atmosphere. Susi and Francine are experienced art teachers with lots of patience so don’t worry if you are an absolute beginner. Equally we’ll help you develop your skills if you have a little experience under your belt.

The Course

We’ll start with pencil and charcoal for some basic exercises and then move on during the week to experiment with pastels and water-soluble pencils. For those who are ready we’ll progress to pen and ink and watercolours (we use vibrant watercolour inks).

We’ll be based in a studio by the pool at Finca Buenvino but will take full advantage of the wonderful location around the Finca to draw still life, flowers and fruit (and perhaps pigs and chickens!). There will be two or three trips to nearby villages to sketch local scenes and hopefully local flamenco dancers.

By the end of the week you will have completed a portfolio of drawings and paintings and have begun a sketchbook.

We’ll work most mornings from 9.30 – 12.30 before a break for lunch then back to the studio or take a trip to a village before finishing at 4.30pm.

There will be plenty of opportunities to walk in the shady woods, swim in the gorgeous infinity pool and take in the breath-taking views – or grab a late siesta before drinks and candlelit supper in the evening.

Transport during your stay

We will have a mini bus to take us on the short trips (10-20 mins) to villages nearby.

Transfer from Seville

There will be one pick up from Seville city centre on Sunday 10 Sept at 1pm. We advise you to fly in earlier and enjoy the city for a night or two.

Alternatively, a taxi from the airport to Finca Buenvino costs approx. 125 Euros.

There are several car hire companies at the airport and the rail station in Seville.
Intrepid travellers might like to take the bus – about 10 euros for the 90-minute ride. You will need to check the timetable online.

If you would like to combine your art holiday with a night or two in Seville at the beginning or end of your trip – it’s best to book early as the city has been written up in Conde Nast Travel magazine as one of this year’s destinations. There are many excellent Hotels, we like the simplicity of the Alcazar, but get a light-filled top floor premium deluxe room with views over the gardens and the cathedral. Or in the centre of the old town Hotel Las Casas de la Juderia, Hotel Vincci la Rábida, Hotel Amadeus, or El Rey Moro. There are many styles and many prices so do read up carefully.

When

Sunday 10 Sept to Saturday 16 Sept. We’ll meet on Sunday evening around 5pm for drinks tea, coffee and cake and to meet fellow guests. Later, we’ll convene for drinks in the conservatory followed by supper on the terrace or in the candlelit dining room.

The first session is on Monday morning, then we’ll draw, paint and sketch different subjects using different mediums each day.

Course ends on Friday afternoon, with the farewell dinner on Friday evening. Students depart on Saturday morning after breakfast.
