Learn to Draw and Paint in Andalucía, 5th-11th May 2019
Join ArtSplash tutors, Francine Lawrence and Susi Hoyle, for a fabulous week of drawing and painting at beautiful Finca Buenvino, from Sunday 5 to Saturday 11 May 2019.
If you think you can’t draw but have always wanted to, then spend a week learning with Francine and Susi who have successfully taught over 1000 people to draw. If you have done a little drawing and painting but would like to develop your skills, then this is a great opportunity to improve and learn new techniques in a creative atmosphere. Susi and Francine are experienced art teachers with lots of patience so don’t worry if you are an absolute beginner. Equally we’ll help you develop your skills if you have a little experience under your belt.
We’ll start with pencil and charcoal for some basic exercises and then move on during the week to experiment with pastels and water-soluble pencils. For those who are ready we’ll progress to pen and ink and watercolours (we use vibrant watercolour inks).
We’ll be based in a studio by the pool at Finca Buenvino but will take full advantage of the wonderful location around the Finca to draw still life, flowers and fruit (and perhaps pigs and chickens!). There will be two or three trips to nearby villages to sketch local scenes and hopefully local flamenco dancers.
By the end of the week you will have completed a portfolio of drawings and paintings and have begun a sketchbook
We’ll work most mornings from 9.30 – 12.30 before a break for lunch then back to the studio or take a trip to a village before finishing at 4.30pm.
There will be plenty of opportunities to walk in the shady woods, swim in the gorgeous infinity pool and take in the breath-taking views – or grab a late siesta before drinks and candlelit supper in the evening.
Transport during your stay
We will have a mini bus to take us on the short trips (10-20 mins) to villages nearby.
There will be one pick-up in a mini-bus to collect people from the airport for the 75-minute drive to Finca Buenvino, on Sunday 5 May (time to be confirmed), and another at the end of the course on the morning of Saturday 11 May to take people back to Seville airport.
Alternatively, a taxi from the airport to Finca Buenvino costs approx. 125 Euros.
There are several car hire companies at the airport and the rail station in Seville.
Intrepid travellers might like to take the bus – about 10 euros for the 90-minute ride. You will need to check the timetable online.
If you would like to combine your art holiday with a night or two in Seville at the beginning or end of your trip – it’s best to book early as the wonderful Feria de Abril (confusingly it’s in May this year!) is on 4-11 May. We like the Hotel Simon – lovely old building – nothing fancy but reasonably priced and very central.
Sunday 5 May to Saturday 11 May. We’ll meet on Sunday evening around 5pm for tea, coffee and cake, to meet fellow guests. Later we’ll have drinks in the conservatory followed by supper on the terrace, or in the candlelit dining room.
The first session is on Monday morning, then we’ll draw, paint and sketch different subjects using different mediums each day.
Course ends on Friday afternoon, with the farewell dinner on Friday evening. Students depart on Saturday morning after breakfast.
